What tasks are NOT able to be delegated by an RN?

The nursing process is a systematic approach that includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. This process requires critical thinking, clinical judgment, and a comprehensive understanding of a patient's needs and condition. Because of its complexity and the necessity for individualized care, tasks that fall under the nursing process cannot be delegated to unlicensed personnel or those without appropriate training.

While medication administration, caring for stable clients, and basic hygiene care may be delegated under certain circumstances and protocols, the nursing process encompasses vital decision-making responsibilities that must remain with the registered nurse. Therefore, it is imperative that RNs retain these tasks to ensure quality care and patient safety.
